Revered Swami Medhanandaji Maharaj, a Senior Research Fellow in Philosophy at the Vedanta Society of Southern California, visited South Africa from August 1 to August 13, 2025. He was accompanied by Revered Swami Swatmaramanandaji Maharaj (President of the Ramakrishna Centre of S.A) throughout his extensive program.
The visit began with a Welcome Satsang at the Durban Centre on August 1, where Swami Medhanandaji delivered the keynote address and Swami Swatmaramanandaji performed bhajans. A key highlight was the Spiritual Retreat on August 7, where Revered Swami Medhanandaji led a guided meditation and delivered a talk on “How to Approach and Read the Gospel of Sri Ramakrishna.” He also participated in a program for Krishna Ashtami Celebrations on August 10 and 11, giving a discourse on the life of Sri Krishna.
Swami Medhanandaji’s visit was marked by a wide range of speaking engagements, focusing on spiritual guidance for a modern audience.
- August 1: His visit began with a Welcome Satsang where he delivered the keynote address.
- August 2: He held an interactive Youth Session and gave a talk on “The Power of Selfless Service – Applying Karma Yoga in Daily Life.”
- August 3: At the Northern KwaZulu-Natal Children’s Cultural Festival in Dundee, he addressed the crowd on “Children and Youth Empowerment.”
- August 4: During a Satsang at the Ladysmith Sub-Centre, he delivered a talk titled “The Role of a Guru in Spiritual Life: Insights from Sri Ramakrishna’s Teachings.” He also spoke at the Johannesburg Sub-Centre on “Managing the Mind in a Distracted Age – Vedanta for a Digital Generation.”
- August 7: A Spiritual Retreat held at the Durban Centre featured a discourse and guided meditation led by Swami Medhanandaji. He also gave a talk on “How to Approach and Read the Gospel of Sri Ramakrishna.” Later that day, he visited the Etete Satsang Group and addressed the Centre’s EXCO on “Duty and Work Excellence.”
- August 8: At the Sri Vishnu Mandir in Cape Town, he gave a talk on “Why God Comes in Human Form – Understanding Divine Incarnation.”
- August 9: He presented a talk on “Women Empowerment” during the Women’s Day Programme at the Centre.
- August 10-11: For the Krishna Ashtami Celebrations, he visited several centres, including the Phoenix Centre and Sri Sarada Devi Ashram, and gave a discourse on the life of Sri Krishna during a Satsang at the Centre.
- Other locations: He visited the Estcourt Satsang Group, where he spoke on “Service is Worship – How to Make your Life a Mission.”
On August 12, Swami Medhanandaji was interviewed by a local radio station – Hindvani FM. He concluded his visit and departed for the USA on August 13.
